i.  Empowering Panchayati Raj Institutions Spatially (EPRIS)

•  Study Area : Birbhum District

•  Objective : Empower Panchayati Raj Institutions for resource based developmental planning at the Gram Panchayat Level. Scope of the project includes i. capacity building of EPRIS, Support functionaries and facilitators ii. Asset mapping and iii. Activity planning.

•  Duration :  18 Months

ii.  National Wastelands Change Analysis – 3rd Cycle

•  Study Area : West Bengal

•  Objective : Generation of updated thematic layers from archive land degradation data by using ortho rectified three season Resourcesat LISS III data of 2015 – 16

•  Duration :  11 Months

iii.  NRC 50K : Natural Resources Census : LU/LC - 3rd Cycle

•  Study Area : West Bengal

•  Objective : Updating of Land use map of the state using Resourcesat LISS III data of 2015 – 16

•  Duration :  18 Months

i.  Sate Spatial Data Infrastructure (SSDI)

•  Study Area : West Bengal

•  Objective : i. Establishment of State Spatial Data Infrastructure connected through web enabled service to the nodes at District (DSDI) and Block (BSDI) level. ii. Spatial data (maps) will be updated or value added at GP/Block/ District level and stored in the state node at WBSCST, HES&TB through web connectivity.

•  Duration :  5 Years

ii.  Vulnerability Assessment under National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem

•  Study Area : West Bengal Himalayas

•  Objective :  In view of a part of national mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem, the project proposal has been prepared and same is submitted to DST, GoI for funding. It is a joint venture of Dept. of Environment and Dept. of HES&TB, GoWB.

•  Duration :  3 Years

i.  Rural Drinking Water Supply Coverage in West Bengal (Request programme from PHED, GoWB)

•  Study Area : West Bengal

•  Objective :  Generation of database on Rural Drinking Water Supply coverage for the state of West Bengal. This GIS based data will also include details like district, block, GP and mouza boundary information along with major rivers, transport network etc.

•  Duration :  2 Years

ii.  Implementation of Fifth Minor Irrigation Census with Landuse Mapping and Cadastral Overlay

•  Study Area : West Bengal

•  Objective : Mapping of MI schemes along with geo-tagged photographs of the scheme enumerated under 5th MI Census. Database generated under MI Census under Ground Water, Surface Water and Village schedules to also incorporated

•  Duration : 2 years

iii.  Multi-purpose Cyclone Shelter Mapping

•  Study Area : Coastal plains of Purba Medinipur, North and South 24 Parganas.

•  Objective : Mapping of Cyclone Shelters constructed in districts of Purba Medinipur, North and South 24 Parganas.

•  Duration : 12 Months

iv.  Generation of Cadastral Database of West Bengal on GIS Platform for State of West Bengal

•  Study Area : West Bengal

•  Objective : To create spatial-digital database of plot boundary based on LR sheets of the State of West Bengal available with DLRS, GoWB and preparation of seamless layer with proper geo-referencing for further use in different developmental programmes of the state.

•  Duration : 5 years

v.  GIS Mapping of Cities covered under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM)-Phase II

•  Study Area : West Bengal

•  Objective : GIS based mapping of 56 Cities of the state of West Bengal are being carried out under National Urban Health Mission (NUHM)-Phase-II sponsored by Department of Health & Family Welfare, GoWB.

•  Duration : 2 years

vi.  Impact Analysis of Industrial Wastewater Effluents on Surrounding Land & Water bodies Using High Resolution Satellite Data –A Cadastral Level Pilot Scale Study over Parts of Hooghly Industrial Belt , West Bengal

•  Study Area : Uttarpara, Shrirampur & Chanditala –II District Hooghly

•  Objective : Pollution studies from existing industries along with identification of hazardous areas & Identifying suitable zone for future industries .

•  Duration : 2 years (August 2016 – August 2018)

Remote Sensing & GIS Wing also provide expertise and services to user/ line departments of Government of West Bengal. In many cases, customized spatial database are generated for line/user departments when request programmes/ projects are demanded. It is normally worked out in the form of short term project where 100 per cent funding is allotted from partner institutes/organisations.

However, this office also provides spatial database in the form of hard copy/maps in different compositions, scales, paper sizes and themes. The spatial themes includes natural resources, administrative boundaries with road and railway network.


•  Administrative Layer, Drainage, Watershed, Landuse/Landcover, Waste Land, Land Degradation, Transport Network and Updating of River Courses at 50K map sheets.

•  Geomorphology Map for all the districts of West Bengal.

•  Ground Water Prospect Map for all the districts of West Bengal.

•  Water Resource Management Plan (1:50,000) for 4 districts i.e. Bankura, Puruliya, Birbhum and PaschimMedinipur.

•  Arsenic and Fluoride Contamination Maps (1:50,000) for all Arsenic and Fluoride affected blocks of the state.

•  District Environmental Atlas and Zoning Atlas for Sitting of Industries (1: 250,000) for 13 districts i.e. Barddhaman, Hooghly, Jalpaiguri, South 24-Parganas, North 24-Parganas, Purba Medinipur, Puruliya, Bankura, Nadia, Murshidabad, Malda, Coochbehar and PaschimMedinipur.

•  Landslide Hazard Zonation map (1: 50,000) for Darjeeling district

•  Gram Panchayat wise land use map (1:4,000)) for Barjora and Gangajalghati blocks of Bankura district.

Terms & Conditions:

•  Maps supplied are for the sole use of indenters and shall not be loaned, copied or exported to others. For citing of the hard copy map in any report or write up, the data / map source must be clearly shown in the map.

•  Hard copy of the maps is supplied only to the Government departments / Government undertakings.

•  Maps may be supplied observing all the Government rules and regulations.

•  Use of map in any publication or in any report requires prior permission from DHEST&B, GoWB and it is mandatory to acknowledge DHEST&B, GoWB and the agency who sponsored the project for generation of the map.

•  The requisition for supply of maps will be entertained only when the required information furnished in full and payment made in advance.

•  Once the request is processed, Council will send a confirmation copy to the indenter and once it is confirmed it cannot be amended or cancelled.

•  WBSCST reserves the right to refuse/ cancel any request in full or part.

•  All orders must be accompanied by full advance payment for processing to be initiated.

•  Payment shall be made in favour of Member Secretary, West Bengal State Council of Science & Technology, payable at Kolkata.
